Chinese Medicine :: Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs
Acupuncture and Chinese herbology are the main modalities of Chinese medicine and are applied to individual patients in such a way that the energetic balance is restored. The delicate balance of physical, mental and emotional states for each patient are addressed during an acupuncture treatment and through custom herbal recommendations. Chinese medicine uses a system of pattern differentiation to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan for each patient. By determining whether an imbalance is a result of excess, deficiency or stagnation, the treatment reflects the intention of restoring balance while taking into account the underlying root cause of disease along with the manifesting symptoms.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile, solid needles into certain points on the body to regulate the activity of qi (energy) and blood movement. Different needling techniques are applied based on the patient and the imbalance in the system. Acupuncture essentially coaxes the body into healing itself by adjusting the flow of energy. The benefit of this is that there are little to no side effects after the treatments because the body is balancing itself. Keep in mind that acupuncture for babies and acupuncture for children is extrememly effective and often does not involve the insertion of needles, but instead utilizes all the other modalities of Chinese medical care, such as massage and herbs.
Often, you will find Chinese medicine practitioners refer to their training as TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncturist Brooke Tyler was trained in Classical Chinese Medicine, which means that her comprehensive education included studying theory and treatment principles of TCM in addition to the classic Chinese texts, as well as courses in Five Element acupuncture and Japanese styles of acupuncture.
At Clasique, treatments are relaxing, healing, and completely unique to the patient. Along with acupuncture and herbal formulas, treatments often include cupping, tui na (massage), gua sha, essential oils, moxibustion and heat therapy.
